609 S. Anderson Artists

Evan Sornstein,
Composer + Sound Artist

Evan Sornstein is a composer and sound artist whose work explores the presence of ancient wisdom and folklore in our modern world.
Born in Los Angeles, he grew up finding magic in everyday places— a curiosity that grew into a lifelong fascination with the unseen.

He studied music composition at Bennington College, where he began blending narrative, field recordings, and unexpected instrumentation into immersive sonic experiences. Evan has composed music for film and contemporary dance, and has created a range of sound installations that invite listeners to slow down, listen deeply, and sense the subtle “life inside things.”

His ongoing project, The Lullaby League, reimagines ancient philosophies, folktales, and spirit lore through modern experimental sound.

At the Festival: Evan joins us for his second site-specific interactive sound installation with Where Monsters Dream for the Yokai Forest Festival . Created especially for the Festival, Evan presents new “yokai portraits” — sound spirits born from today’s world — inviting us to hear the echoes of old stories in our technology, our objects, and the spaces we move through every day.

Emily Saunders, Interactive Digital Artist

Emily Saunders

Emily Saunders is a designer who loves creating spatial, digital, interactive and immersive environments. With a background in architecture, her work focuses on enlivening “forgotten” spaces in a way that engages people.

Fueled by both the technical and creative aspects of each project, she has fun designing, visualizing, fabricating, and programming when creating her work. These activation installations often contain an interactive and evolving component that creates a biometric feedback loop between the space, the artwork and the viewer.

Originally from England, she now lives and works in Los Angeles.

At the Festival: She will be featuring a digital interactive display that is right at home in the land of the Forest Yokai!
